The Great Reset is the Last Thing the Suffering People Want
In October 2020, ILO, FAO, IFAD and WHO released a joint statement on the "Impact of COVID-19 on people's livelihoods, their health and our food systems."
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and presents an unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the world of work. The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating: tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people, currently estimated at nearly 690 million, could increase by up to 132 million by the end of the year.
Millions of enterprises face an existential threat. Nearly half of the world’s 3.3 billion global workforce are at risk of losing their livelihoods. Informal economy workers are particularly vulnerable because the majority lack social protection and access to quality health care and have lost access to productive assets. Without the means to earn an income during lockdowns, many are unable to feed themselves and their families. For most, no income means no food, or, at best, less food and less nutritious food.
Indeed, people around the world are suffering. But the solutions offered to the crisis are troubling and rings the usual leftist talking point: climate change and build back better aka the Great Reset. It's essentially more centralized control of unelected global bureaucratic elites along with Big Corporations. Here they are:
We must recognize this opportunity to build back better....We must rethink the future of our environment and tackle climate change and environmental degradation with ambition and urgency. Only then can we protect the health, livelihoods, food security and nutrition of all people, and ensure that our ‘new normal’ is a better one.
For all problems in the world, the globalists' solution is always climate change. It reminds me of the old saying, "If the only tool you have is a hammer, all problems look like nails."
It is true that the Covid-19 and the ensued public policies to contain it have brought devastation on millions of people around the world. But the solution to the devastation is not to create some kind of imposed new normal filled with climate change initiatives in order to fundamentally change the world economic structure for the benefits of certain cabal. Instead, the solution is to bring the world back to normalcy. Just normal. The old normal with some improvements, especially on the distribution of opportunities.
Given the end period of this COVID-19 is not yet clear, it's conceivable that those who are zealously pushing for the Great Reset will likely want to prolong the narrative of the coronavirus in order to scare the people. Unfortunately, people are already scared, not by the virus, but by the socio-economic and psychological hardship caused by the overzealous public policies on the virus.
American adults and young people are not only struggling economically due to job losses, but are also more of them suffering from mental health. More than 42% of people surveyed by the US Census Bureau in December reported symptoms of anxiety or depression in December, an increase from 11% the previous year.
Not only adult and young people, but children are also suffering. According to a study published at JAMA Network, "the decision to close US public primary schools in the early months of 2020 may be associated with a decrease in life expectancy for US children."
The coronavirus and the ensued government policies around the world have created The Great Tragedy of the 21th century. This is not to dismiss the danger caused by the coronavirus on people's physical health. However, whether the reckless government policies were driven by irrational panic or by sincerely wrong assumptions of the danger of the virus, the tragedy has occurred and the "cure" has been more costly than the disease. The last thing the suffering people want is for the globalists, national leaders, and the billionaires, including the media, to use the tragedy to promote their ideologically and politically driven agendas.
